A Mans Best Friend (Poem)

A Mans Best Friend

I am a man,
A man with a long lost best friend
He was my soul mate, my pal
He was tossed onto the streets the minute I left
Without a say or plea

I wish my dog were next to me so I could set him free
I would play with him and hunt with him
Oh I would later see how time would fly for he was not a pup anymore
You see time had passed us by.

He was as old as the ancient gods for he could not even wag his tail.
When I came back he had remembered me
But he could not even wail.

Oh how the time had passed us
We have both changed.
For I had called his name and he couldn’t even look my way.
By gosh that dog was old,
But back in my day
We could both actually run around and play.

That dog was my best friend nobody could replace him and now seeing the shape he is in I wish he had gone away.

He was not in good health, not in a good home, for Pete’s sake he lived upon the dung as if nobody had cared.

I wish we could go back and relive the days for if I could have seen all the changes I would not have felt this way.
